[Derby] Friends of horse racing - politics edition
Dear All I think that very few members of the list will know of my admiration for Governor Cuomo and his unceasing support for racing in New York. Every time in early November that I change planes in Newark or Charlotte, or enjoy that thirteen hour flight to California, I thank Andrew for ensuring that NYRA is always ready to stage a magnificent Breeders' Cup. Although, for some odd inexplicable reason, the BC seems to have chosen a venue elsewhere since 2005. Rather like Biggie needed Tupac, Andrew needs Ash. Ash Kalra wants to save me the long flight to Cali, for which I thank him. It's a pity, because Ash knows how to propose legislation that will ensure that horse racing thrives in Cali and that that great state is ready to stage the BC in much that same way that New York is. Personal, and non-exhaustive highlights of the legislation that Ash is proposing include: "A violation of the Horse Racing Law is a crime". "report to the board any sealing or reinforcement of the track that is not considered regular maintenance, and prohibit training or races at least 7 days after any sealing or reinforcement of the track that is not considered regular maintenance or until the board deems the track surface not to pose a danger to the safety of the horses from a hardened impact." "The bill would also authorize the board to require racetracks to transition to high-quality synthetic surfaces and require the revocation of the license of a track operator who fails to comply with the requirements as described above." "The bill would require the board to suspend a trainer’s license following the death of a horse during racing or training, pending investigation by the board." I could go on... Anyway, with friends like Ash.......[that's enough, shut up Dave] _______________________________________________ Derby mailing list Posting: Derby at lists.derbylist.com Sub/Unsub: http://lists.derbylist.com/listinfo.cgi/derby-derbylist.com
