[Derby] DRF Journalism & TC Thoughts:
I'll be all over the map here but I will try to explain my reasoning. Looking @ 30% trainers in a race is a thing of the past for me. But one can understand Brad Free's logic. But what Mark states makes more sense. Why should we even have to wade through that mire? The contesting of no lasix for 2yo's in Ky in just ridiculous. NO Race Day MEDS solves the issue we all hate to incorporate in our daily solving the racing dilemma. And those should realize the handle swing of those that feel this way. Now in an article I just read in the Louisville Courier by Tim Sullivan about the positive test on Charlatan & Gamine @ OP the author quotes Louis Cella. As saying for the most part it will not be handled the way the CHRB handled the scopolamine positive that Justify had prior to the Derby where he states was an embarrassment to the industry. Now I am not here to defend BB but let's look at that situation. SA Derby 4/7 first notice of positive 4/18 the CHRB took months to confirm that positive. BB notified 4/26 and asked for his due process and a second test that was sent out 5/1, 4 days prior to the Derby. Came back 5/8 which tested positive again. Where the Board filed a complaint and said a hearing will be scheduled. Which never happened. On 8/23 the Board met and decided not to proceed on the complaint against BB. Now was this miss handled ? Sure, the positive would have DQ'd the horse and history changed. My beef with this is the mishandling and in today's day an age we should have gotten to the bottom of it before the race even in the short time. Like I said I am not here to defend a trainer. But I have to ask myself if in fact they would have taken the chance in using the substance that knowingly would have kept this talent out of what this trainer trains for every year? The jimson weed positive makes more sense to me even as the positive was excessive. Horses do eat quite a bit an if the feed was tainted makes more sense in this instance. Telling or more of a smoking gun is we never saw him again after the Bel (even with the dough involved) but indeed never tested positive in his next 3 either. While only a black eye on the CHRB for it's mishandling saying they saw no pressure from the horses owners. So I say a travesty avoided. And that would have been not seeing this tremendously talented animal do what he in fact did clean. The smacks racing sees resonate because of it's avoidance to bring NA racing on par with the rest of the jurisdictions around the world. BB has had his share of controversy, but his whole operation revolves around the Triple Crown. Some trainers 2yo's, some turf, etc. So for me at least I don't buy the shame on this one. Go ahead fire away! Moral of this ramble let's get everybody on the same page top to bottom. Let's cross State lines, let's have rules and regs everyone follows and let's have a sport where integrity is restored and farces like Santos and the buzzer are forgotten days. On to the Derby List Contest. Where as trainers scramble in this different time we are in. Owners wondering where their steeds may show up. We as cappers have to adjust as well. So why wait from June to Dec in the Contest? When we will have the SA Derby, Los Al Derby, Bluegrass that are usually part of the contest. And also add the Haskell and Travers if they run which it looks like they will?Switch things up a bit in this unprecedented time. Stay safe everyone, we got a long way to go.Keep pickin' winners!Chuck _______________________________________________ Derby mailing list Posting: Derby at lists.derbylist.com Sub/Unsub: http://lists.derbylist.com/listinfo.cgi/derby-derbylist.com
