Re: [Derby] Derby Digest, Vol 14, Issue 89
Dave R posted this broadcast with Pat Cummings. https://youtu.be/WZsbTgVXHws Thanks Dave. I have never heard this subject discussed so openly in public. I hadn’t read their white paper. I should correct that by saying that I hadn’t seen such an open discussion since the 2003 NTRA white paper on the subject. My first thought is how much the game hurt itself since it defunded the NTRA as a pseudo central body. What a mistake and no one even knows this in horseracing. Also, I am taken back by the direct access the volume players have to the pools. They are the only ones allowed to make volume bets late. Also, in jackpot wagers the volume players have access to the tickets that haven’t been played yet. When the jackpot wagers first came out, I though they protected the small player. Boy was I wrong. I remember my first foray into racing twitter being disastrous because the pro-rebate players who many were on the board of HANNA blasted me over my positions on rebate play. One of the most respected Twitter guys blocked me Hanna board director) for saying that the volume players had direct access to the pools. He admitted that he was paid by these volume players for some technical projects and this direct access didn’t exist. He still blocks me. The only practical solution that I heard was for racing to create bets that exclude the volume players. Patrick mentioned a couple of these types of bets in Europe. I think it is a realistic first step.
