Terry, Thank you for the very lucid explanation of coupled entries and its disappearance. I've also noticed that, more often than not, when two horses are coupled as a single betting interest, one scratches. I'd say it happens at least half the time, though I have no figures to support my hunch. I've seen as many as three coupled entries in a race: 1 and 1A (red), 2 and 2A (white), and 3 and 3A (blue) but never 4 and 4A (yellow). I wonder if it's ever happened.
