[Derby] Ascot
Every year I get the opportunity to exchange ideas about the Ascot meet with Carlton S., Dave Robinson and Allan W. offline. It was Carlton who got me interested in Ascot. I am forever thankful. It has so much of what is right about horse racing. I spend a few day trying to handicap my heart out. This time I only lasted three days. I got ahead and decided to back down and try to at least win at one meet this year. It is such a cowardly way to play. I will add that I have been in a long slump in U.S. racing. That is a subject for another day. I really love looking for good value and cashing in. The opportunities are there. I also like the idea of trying to out-handicap other players. It is just a pride thing. I did say “trying”. I did this a few years ago at Saratoga with some of other listers. That was a lot of fun. We kept track of it. The Derby contest does something similar. But, oddly I have no interest in the Derby. It is odd, but true. Well, I enjoyed this year very much. And I thank Allan, Dave and Carlton for including me.
