Dear Listers
I write to you in full cognisance of the fact that my selections for last year's BC have been certified comedy gold.
For Friday, the usual disclaimer applies. I will not be at Keeneland and therefore will not be backing up my selections with cold hard cash.
Anyway, onto the nags:
JUVE TURF SPRINT
Lady Hollywood – I like the new-kid-on-the-block trainer, but miracle required. Toss.
Dramatised – Competitive at the highest level in the UK. Is speedy, but very disappointing last time out. Toss.
Mischief Magic – On paper, best of the Euros by far. However, gets behind early. Toss.
Persian Force – Classier than most, but finds a way to get beat. Use underneath.
The Platinum Queen – Will blast to the front from wide draw, but won’t enjoy being mobbed by speedy Americans. Instant toss.
VERDICT: The speedy Yanks present a challenge these Euros will never have faced before. Also, why do we insist on using our own jockeys for these sprints? Maybe Persian Force can pick up a piece?
JUVE FILLIES TURF
Manhattan Jungle – If it rains, take a second look. If not, toss.
Meditate – Very classy pedigree that screams improvement now moved up to a mile for the first time. Include, but at very cramped odds.
Midnight Mile - Only two runs, but very much going in the right direction. Pedigree says she will be well suited by the mile. But, two runs and now 14 runners around Keeneland? Lack of experience means toss.
Basil Martini – Last win was a fluke? Toss.
VERDICT: Meditate to outclass this field.
JUVE TURF
Victoria Road – Moore will attempt to save every inch of ground with rail trip. Not convinced that his prominent running style will suit this race or that he has the class to hang on in front. Toss.
Silver Knott – Has won two very weak graded races. Chalk, but instant toss for me.
VERDICT: The two Euros might start chalk and second chalk, but I'm not convinced.
Good luck to all!
Dave
