Re: [Derby] Tom Amoss on Lasix
I enjoyed Mark's post but I'll add a disagreement. As well add to Sal's post here. I think Andy is liked and respected outside the set. Jon picks a fair amount of chalk. Almost every pick of Andy's is of value and he tells you it is the name of the game. Respect that for sure, although he tells you why he's on this one and it just doesn't fit my style of cappin.' What makes the game so great! The most prolific thing said on this this broadcast so far was said by Andy. The difference between handicapping and betting. Saying some of his best friends are terrible handicappers but fine bettors. We would love to hear all these folks laminate on this subject and even display it, but their simply is not enough time. And all the prices would be worse than what we see now from the whales pouring gobbs of cash in at the last minute on the outdated system being used. Follow the exacta matrix's and watch them shrink and shirk in certain instances. Example and I have said this before, in the Travers with under 5 min to post, (and I have this in common with Jonathon) When I see a 2/5 that looks like a sure winner I like to find value under. For me that was Cacaro (sp) when I bet it, it was $28.20 on return. I got $15.60. Almost cut in half and the final payout displayed was after the race was over. Add exchange wagering and no race day meds and watch racing climb in the gaming world again. As we have already gotten long overdue tax reform. While we have given a lot of criticism to the sport we love. I think in these troubling times of trying to have some assemblance of normalcy we have to give racing credit for what they have done and actually worked together to get done. I love these kinds of discussions. I have a couple of comments. I suspect that Acacia and Maggie help each out out. Maggie is becoming a better presenter and Acacia is becoming a better paddock analyst. One other thing that I like learning more about is the ex jockeys’ perspectives. I think it was Migliore who mentioned how jockeys signal each other on the turn about the timing of moves on the rail. The inside jockey is given a chance to move into position or otherwise the rail will shut down shortly thereafter. It helps when watching a race. Everybody else is fine. Overall, I wish it would be more of an educational experience. It is, but maybe not enough. One more skill needs to come on board. They need a person who has expertise in betting. I think that betting and handicapping are different skills.
